J Circular system Corporation (President: Ryuichi Okuno, Head Office: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, hereinafter "JCS"), a group company of J&T Recycling Corporation (President: Hiroyuki Haseba, Head Office: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), has obtained certification*1 from the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry for its "Recycling Plan Based on Article 33 of the Act on Promotion of Resource Circulation for Plastics" (hereinafter the "Plastic Resource Circulation Act"), which was formulated in collaboration with Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Samukawa Town, Koza District, Kanagawa Prefecture, respectively. This marks the seventh municipality*2 for which JCS has obtained ministerial certification for a recycling plan developed in collaboration with a local government.
With this certification, starting in April 2027, Chigasaki City and Samukawa Town will begin separate collection of used plastic products that had previously been collected as non-combustible waste. Going forward, used plastic products collected from both municipalities will be transported to JCS, where they will be sorted through advanced sorting technology into PP*3 resin raw material and other materials, and subsequently recycled through material recycling.
Both municipalities aim to visualize the recycling process by clarifying the recycling procedures. In addition, through collaboration with JCS to recycle used plastic products, the municipalities aim to reduce environmental impact by promoting waste reduction and resource circulation.
The J&T Recycling Group will continue to strengthen collaboration with local governments and further promote plastic waste recycling, thereby contributing to the formation of a recycling-based society.
*1 Municipalities that receive certification will be able to streamline and consolidate the intermediate processing steps of sorting, compression, and baling, which were previously carried out separately by municipalities and recycling operators under the Containers and Packaging Recycling Act. In addition, recycling operations may be entrusted to recycling operators (recycling businesses)
*2 Municipalities that have obtained ministerial certification to date: Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture; Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Ota Ward, Tokyo; Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture
