Urban Energy Corporation (hereinafter "Urban Energy"), a new electricity retailer wholly owned by JFE Engineering Corporation, has seen its food waste-derived electricity supply plan "Electricity Creation Returning®"*1 adopted sequentially from March 2026 at a total of 12 locations, comprising stores and head office-related facilities of MOS FOOD SERVICES, INC. (hereinafter " MOS FOOD SERVICES "), which operates MOS BURGER.

In this initiative, food waste generated from MOS FOOD SERVICES' affiliated logistics centers and selected stores is converted into electricity through biogas power generation via methane fermentation at the food recycling plant of J Bio Food Recycle Corporation, a subsidiary of J&T Recycling Corporation, which handles recycling business within the JFE Engineering Group. Urban Energy purchases this electricity and supplies it to MOS FOOD SERVICES' stores and other facilities, thereby realizing a recycling loop from food waste to electricity within the MOS Group.

Furthermore, by introducing the "Zero Emission Plan®"*2, an electricity plan utilizing non-fossil fuel certificates designated as renewable energy for the amount of electricity consumed, the annual CO₂ emissions of approximately 670 tons associated with electricity consumption across the 12 locations comprising stores and head office-related facilities will be effectively reduced to zero.

The JFE Engineering Group and MOS FOOD SERVICES will continue to expand and promote environmentally conscious initiatives, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

A unique service offered by Urban Energy since 2017 that provides electricity rate discounts based on the amount of waste when power generated from waste is purchased and supplied to the facility where the waste originated.
