J&T Recycling Corporation (President: Hiroyuki Haseba, Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, hereinafter "J&T Recycling") and its group company J Circular system Corporation (President: Sazo Nakamura, Headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, hereinafter "J Circular system") will conduct a demonstration project for the collection and recycling of plastic storage cases in collaboration with Kawasaki City and MUJI (Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd.) (President: Satoshi Shimizu, Headquarters: Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, hereinafter "Ryohin Keikaku") as part of the "Kawasaki Plastic Circulation Project"*1 promoted by Kawasaki City.
Currently, used plastic storage cases are collected as bulky waste in many municipalities and recycling has not progressed. This demonstration project aims to examine efficient collection and recycling methods for plastic storage cases, and will be conducted at "MUJI Gran Tree Musashi-Kosugi" from September 26 (Friday) to October 20 (Monday), 2025.
For this project, Ryohin Keikaku will collect plastic storage cases including non-MUJI products at their store, and Kawasaki City will transport non-MUJI storage cases to J Circular system. J&T Recycling will conduct property verification*2 and quality evaluation at J Circular system to determine whether the collected storage cases can be used as raw materials for MUJI products.
If the feasibility is confirmed through this demonstration project, it will lead to the promotion of plastic storage case recycling regardless of manufacturer or raw material used.
The J&T Recycling Group has been working on material recycling of plastic storage cases since 2022, advancing their reuse in home appliances and automotive parts. Through this demonstration project, we will strengthen our efforts toward further promotion of plastic resource circulation.
