Robapan Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Robapan"), which primarily operates in the Hokkaido region, has implemented a food and energy recycling service utilizing the "Electricity Creation Returning®"*1 power plan offered by Urban Energy Corporation (hereinafter "Urban Energy"), a retail electricity provider wholly owned by JFE Engineering Corporation, starting July 2025.

In this scheme proposed by Urban Energy, food waste from Robapan's food factory undergoes methane fermentation and biogas power generation at SAPPORO BIO FOOD RECYCLING CORPORATION, a subsidiary of J&T Recycling Corporation. Urban Energy then purchases the generated electricity and supplies it to Robapan's food factory, thereby creating an energy cycle derived from food waste.

This innovative initiative has garnered attention for its achievement in creating a recycling system in the food industry and promoting local energy production for local consumption, with further developments anticipated.

Robapan and the JFE Engineering Group will continue to expand and promote environmentally conscious services, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

*1 "Electricity Creation Returning®"
A unique service offered by Urban Energy since 2017 that provides electricity rate discounts based on the amount of waste when power generated from waste is purchased and supplied to the facility where the waste originated.
