Urban Energy Corporation (hereinafter "Urban Energy"), a retail electricity provider wholly owned by JFE Engineering Corporation, has implemented an energy recycling loop service centered on food recycling using the "Electricity Creation Returning®"*1 power plan at Aleph Inc. (hereinafter "Aleph")'s Otaru Beer Zenibako Brewery starting May 2025.

In this scheme provided by Urban Energy, spent grain from Aleph's Otaru Beer Zenibako Brewery is processed through methane fermentation and biogas power generation at SAPPORO BIO FOOD RECYCLING CORPORATION, a subsidiary of J&T Recycling Corporation. Urban Energy then purchases the generated electricity and supplies it to the Otaru Beer Zenibako Brewery, thereby creating an energy recycling loop from food waste.
Additionally, by implementing the "Zero Emission Plan® Premium"*2, which uses non-fossil fuel certificates designated for renewable energy against the amount of electricity used, the CO2 emissions from electricity consumption at the Otaru Beer Zenibako Brewery will be reduced to zero.

Urban Energy began supplying electricity under the "Zero Emission Plan® Premium" to some of Aleph's Bikkuri Donkey restaurants in 2020. Currently, similar energy recycling loops using "Electricity Creation Returning®" have been implemented at several locations in the Tokyo and Sapporo areas.

The JFE Engineering Group will continue to expand and promote environmentally conscious services, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

A unique service offered by Urban Energy since 2017 that provides electricity rate discounts based on the amount of waste when power generated from waste is purchased and supplied to the facility where the waste originated.

*2 "Zero Emission Plan® Premium"
A plan that supplies 100% renewable energy by combining FIT electricity and other renewable energy sources with non-fossil fuel certificates designated for renewable energy, achieving zero CO2 emission coefficient.
