Urban Energy Corporation (hereinafter "Urban Energy"), a power company wholly owned by JFE Engineering Corporation, has introduced a circular eco-system service centered on food recycling using the "Electricity Creation Returning®" power plan*1 to select stores of conveyor-belt sushi restaurant "Sushiro" operated by Akindo Sushiro Co., Ltd., from April 1, 2025.

In the scheme proposed by Urban Energy, food waste generated from select Sushiro stores (7 stores in Fukuoka Prefecture) is processed through methane fermentation and recycling power generation at FUKUOKA Bio Food Recycling Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of J&T Recycling Corporation. Urban Energy purchases the generated electricity and supplies it to select Sushiro stores.
Additionally, by introducing the "Zero Emission Plan®" power plan using non-fossil certificates designated for renewable energy for the electricity consumption at select stores, the CO2 emissions from these stores are effectively reduced to zero.

The JFE Engineering Group will continue to expand and promote environmentally conscious services to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

*1 "Electricity Creation Returning®": A service where Urban Energy purchases electricity generated from waste and supplies it to waste-generating facilities, offering electricity rate discounts based on waste volume. This unique service has been provided by the power retailer since 2017.
