Urban Energy Corporation (hereinafter "Urban Energy"), a power company wholly owned by JFE Engineering Corporation, began providing a circular renewable energy system centered on food recycling using the "Electricity Creation Returning®" power plan*1 to The Monogatari Corporation (hereinafter "Monogatari Corporation")'s factory from April 1, 2025.
The service proposed by Urban Energy involves recycling food waste generated during food processing at Monogatari Food Factory and Monogatari Food Lab, operated by Monogatari Corporation in Komaki City. The waste is processed through methane fermentation and recycling power generation at Bios Komaki Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Bios Komaki"), a subsidiary of J&T Recycling Corporation (hereinafter "J&T Recycling") located in the same city. Urban Energy purchases the generated electricity and supplies it to Monogatari Corporation's factory.
Furthermore, by using non-fossil certificates, a "circular renewable energy system" is realized where part of the electricity used is effectively sourced from the company's own renewable energy, expecting to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 333 tons annually.
This initiative was realized through collaboration between Monogatari Corporation and the JFE Group, based on the "Partnership Agreement for Promoting Decarbonization and Resource Circulation Centered on Food Recycling in Komaki City" signed in January 2025 between Komaki City and three JFE Group companies, as part of Monogatari Corporation's proactive sustainability activities.
Monogatari Corporation aims to contribute to solving social issues, including climate change response and sustainable development, while pursuing the dual goals of creating a "prosperous society" and becoming a "brand and company essential to customers."
*1 "Electricity Creation Returning®": A service where Urban Energy purchases electricity generated from waste and supplies it to waste-generating facilities, offering electricity rate discounts based on waste volume. This unique service has been provided by the power retailer since 2017.
