Bios Komaki Co., Ltd. (President: Tomoki Hirobe, Headquarters: Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture, hereinafter "Bios Komaki"), established by J&T Recycling Corporation (President: Tetsuo Tsuyuguchi, Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, hereinafter "J&T Recycling"), a group company of JFE Engineering Corporation (President: hajime Oshita, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter "JFE Engineering"), has constructed a food recycling power plant which has been operating in phases since February 2023, and today held a power generation ceremony marking the start of full-scale power generation operations.

Komaki City has shown high environmental awareness, ranking first in waste recycling rates in Aichi Prefecture for five consecutive years since 2016, and is actively introducing renewable energy. To further promote these initiatives, effective utilization of food waste has been a long-standing challenge. Responding to these local recycling needs, J&T Recycling has launched its first food waste recycling business in the Chukyo region.

Bios Komaki accepts up to 120 tons of food waste daily, using methane gas generated through microbial fermentation as fuel for power generation. The power output is 1,100kW, with an estimated annual power generation of approximately 9,200MWh (equivalent to annual power consumption of about 2,200 households). The generated electricity will utilize the FIT (Feed-in Tariff) system and aim for local energy production and consumption through Urban Energy Corporation (President: Atsushi Kobayashi, Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), JFE Engineering's power retail subsidiary. Additionally, the company is considering utilizing fermentation residue generated during the treatment process as fertilizer.

The JFE Engineering Group will continue to collaborate with local communities to improve food recycling rates and promote local production and consumption of renewable energy, contributing to the realization of a recycling-based society.
